Canada Geese camp out on the ice next to a tiny sliver of open water.  By the next morning, everything was frozen solid and the geese were gone.

With the ice melted, we have the annual visitation of Arctic Tundra Swans.  Last year we had about 40 for quite a few weeks.  I floated on my board quite close to them and was surprised and touched by how much soft chatter there was between them.  Quite an intimate tribe.
