This year on the river
The first day of a hatched eaglet prompted all kinds of activity, including fixing up the nest a bit.
Canada Geese camp out on the ice next to a tiny sliver of open water. By the next morning, everything was frozen solid and the geese were gone.
They're back! Geese navigate the Potomac in it's transition from solid ice to semi-frozen slush.
With the ice melted, we have the annual visitation of Arctic Tundra Swans. Last year we had about 40 for quite a few weeks. I floated on my board quite close to them and was surprised and touched by how much soft chatter there was between them. Quite an intimate tribe.
